7. Legal basis for cookie use
Strictly necessary cookies are used on the basis that they are required to provide a service you have explicitly requested, such as submitting an order, and therefore fall within an exemption under PECR that does not require consent. Analytics and marketing cookies are used only where you give your freely given, specific and informed consent through our cookie banner or settings panel, in line with both PECR and the UK GDPR. Where consent is the legal basis, you may withdraw it at any time with the same ease with which you gave it, and doing so will stop the relevant cookies from being set on future visits.
8. How long cookies are retained
Session cookies are deleted automatically when you close your browser. Persistent first-party cookies used for consent and preferences are retained for no longer than twelve months, after which you will be asked again for your preference. Third-party analytics and advertising cookies follow the retention periods set by the relevant provider, as shown in the tables above, and we review those settings periodically to ensure they remain proportionate. Where a cookie's purpose has been fulfilled before its stated expiry, for example a completed order session, the associated data is disregarded even though the cookie file may remain until it expires naturally.
9. Third-party cookie providers
Certain cookies are placed by trusted third parties who provide analytics and advertising measurement services to us, currently including Google Analytics for aggregate website statistics and Meta for social media advertising measurement. These providers act as independent controllers of the data collected through their cookies and publish their own privacy notices explaining how that data is used. We select third-party providers carefully and require, so far as our commercial arrangements allow, that any personal data is processed in a way that respects UK data protection standards.
10. International transfers linked to cookies
Where a third-party cookie provider is based outside the United Kingdom, such as in the United States, the resulting data may be transferred internationally as part of that provider's global infrastructure.
